2007 Association Meeting
Please consider your involvement with the Staff Alumni Association. It is likely there will be positions to fill as Board Members transition out. The positions and responsibilities can be reviewed in the Association Handbook. The Board is currently considering implementation of by-laws regarding membership. This issue will be on the agenda for our Annual Meeting as we look for member input to discern our parameters.
The Board is also proceeding with creating an outreach avenue to local Lion’s Clubs. We hope to have alumni members throughout the State available to present and promote WLC and the alumni association to help us connect with Lion’s members and camp staff. The Board is working with camp staff to achieve this important connection.
Some other things the Board is up to...
· We’ll bring a Belts treat to the summer staffers in July.
· Networking at the summer Open House weekend.
· Hospitality bags for retreat attendees.
· Camp service projects.
Labor Day Retreat Weekend
Plans for the 2007 WLC Staff Alumni Association Retreat are already underway. Thanks go out to Aaron Bolter and his family for hosting the weekend this year. It looks like Jay Staus is planning another Lions Camp Competition that you won’t want to miss!!
Anyone willing to lead or help with an activity, please contact a Board Member and we will make sure you get connected with Aaron. We rely on everyone to pitch in and it’s a great way to be involved. ‘Volunteers are needed to bake cookies/bars for the Friday night social, lead activities, campsite meal serving and clean-up, organize kids’ awards for the Sunday Night Campfire. Let us know if you’d like to help and we’ll forward your name to the Host Family.
IMPORTANT: Retreat registration forms are included with this mailing. Note DISCOUNT prices for WL.C Staff Alumni Association Members!
T-Shirts, T-Shirts
Finally the WLC Staff Alumni Association will have T-shirts available for purchase at the Camp Store this summer! Plan to purchase yours when you visit camp or attend the retreat.
Camp Updates
The new health lodge will be ready for the summer of 20071 Five months and $600,000 later, we have a facility that will be able to serve our campers in an even safer environment. We will be offering tours of the building during the alumni weekend for those who are interested in seeing it.
The Lions Camp Open House has been moved to September 15, 2007. We eliminated the ten-day visually impaired youth session and replaced it with one week for visually impaired and the second week for young adults 18-25 with mild cognitive disabilities. It was open for former youth campers only and we invited 600 and the camp filled in three weeks! It will be a new format with a family camp being run at that time with 8-9 families present from each disability group we serve to give the Lions, Lioness, Leos and guests a better representation of who we serve at camp!
We are still searching for summer staff - - male and female counselors along with a new Health Care Supervisor (full-time). Please contact the camp if you know someone who would be interested In experiencing the fun you had at camp.
Photos
If you have great camp photos you’d like to share - past or present - send them to Pete for the 2007 Power Point show. ‘
