Wildmania (1977)

Track Listing - Liner Notes - Fan Reviews - Lyrics

Recorded on a budget of $500, and released in 1977, Wildmania was Wild Man Fischer's second album after a decade-long silence on vinyl, and his first (as well as the first) for the new Rhino Records label. (The album was not really the "first" Rhino-affiliated release, though - that title also belongs to Fischer for his Go To Rhino Records promo 45.)

Recorded both in the studio and "live" at the left-field pavillion at Dodgers' Stadium, Wildmania presents a somewhat hoarse and wearied (although always high-spirited) Wild Man Fischer, his voice ravaged from years of street-singing. The album features acapella studio selections, "live" performances, and a few cuts where Fischer is backed by the suitably amateurish "Plastic Rhino Band." Despite - or perhaps because of - its overall roughness, Wildmania introduced Larry to a new batch of fans, and gave him a small niche in the punk/underground movement of the time.
