Ireland 2000 - Photo Album

Day 8 - Dublin, Blackrock

Tuesday was Dublin.  We toured Trinity College and saw the Book of Kells, and other famous antiquities, including works by Martin Luther.  The afternoon was spent doing genealogy, and our B&B was at Blackrock.

Day 9 - Proleek Dolmen, Antrim Coast (Northern Ireland), Coleraine

North from the Republic into Northern Ireland, we first stopped at the Proleek Dolmen.  The Antrim coast in the north was beautiful and remote.  Our stay was with Margaret Moore in Coleraine, east of Derry.

Day 10 - Derry, Ctr for Migration Studies (Omagh), Donegal

Derry is a beautiful old walled city where the River Foley becomes Lough Foley.  The 'troubles' are in evidence here, but there is hope.  More genealogy at the Center for Migration Studies near Omagh, then to Donegal.

Day 11 - Ballyshannon, Sligo, Knock, Galway, Spiddal

My best guess is that my great-grandfather Owen Clarey (or Clary) came from around Ballyshannon in County Donegal.  We poked around, then headed south through Sligo, Knock and stayed outside Galway at Spiddal.

Day 12 - Aran Islands, Spiddal

Weather was iffy, but the Aran Islands won out.  A ferry ride from Rossaveal took us to Inishmore and a van tour.  Dun Aengus was at the top of Jeff's list. We took in a show called "Ragus", very good, "mini-Riverdance".

Day 13 - Connemara, Kinvara

Weather was ugly, but we drove thru Connemara northwest of Galway.  Linda  shopped at Avoca Handweavers store where we saw Hume Cronin! Really! We drove on to a farm B&B at Kinvara for the night.

Day 14 - The Burren & Home!

Rainbows in the morning and a trip thru the barren Burren, a rocky region.  Then back to Shannon airport and home!
