Silver
Trowel Award - Residential
Jim & Sandi La Luzerne,De
Pere,Wisconsin
Their home of
rustic design lies on a 23-acre site featuring 150 species of trees and
shrubs. Of interest is a large climbing Hydrangea which covers an entire
wall of the house. A stream winds its way over a rocky bed and crosses the
intensely developed three acres adjacent to the home. The stream widens
into interesting ponds, some covered by water lilies. The stream ends in a
large pond in view from a patio for outdoor living. What Jim calls "A Pond
House" provides a good view of the pond and serves as a warming house for
winter ice skating. |

Silver
Trowel Award – Commercial
Crowley Dentistry, 2450 S. Oneida St., Green Bay
This unusually
well-landscaped dental office features extensive plantings enhancing an
artistically pleasing sign. The color of the sign has been carefully
chosen in keeping with the exterior brick of the building. A circular pond
surrounds the sign, with a small waterfall at one end. Extensive plantings
of annual and perennial flowers provide color throughout the growing
season. As the season progresses, tall-growing grasses and annual flowers
provide an interesting seasonal change. The short walk from the parking
lot to the main entrance is embellished by a pleasing mixture of flowers
and low-growing shrubs. |

Silver
Trowel Award - Institutional
Parkview Middle School
955 Willard Dr., Green Bay
An inviting
well-landscaped front entrance with a beautiful sign and plantings greets
the visitor. But it is the back of the building that displays a unique
garden with many features created by the children. A pergola opens from
the south end and leads to an informal gravel path edged by stones. A
hallway opens to this area permitting the students easy access to the
garden. Near the south end of the garden, a unique bench top with embedded
colored glass comes into view. Individual concrete castings spell out
the work ethic of the school—Honesty, Compassion, Respect, Responsibility,
and Courage. Award accepted by Lori Gehring of Parkview School. |

Silver Trowel Award - Individual
Cliff & Camilla Holl,Green
Bay
This hard
working couple has given outstanding service to the Gardeners Club and
general public. For many years they chaired the Education and Plant
Records Committee, keeping records of the giant fruits and vegetables.
They were always to be seen at the Farmers Market weighing produce
brought in by the general public. For the youth awards, they weighed and
recorded the giant pumpkins, some of which exceeded 500 pounds, and they
measured the width of the sunflower heads, some of which exceeded 20
inches. At the Harvest Banquet, Cliff has been regarded as the best
auctioneer by many.
