About Us

The Gardeners Club of Green Bay was begun in 1967 and became chartered in 1968 by the Men’s Garden Clubs of America, now The Gardeners of America, Inc./Men’s Garden Clubs of America, Inc. (TGOA/MGCA).

Our objectives are
bullet

to promote interest in gardening among those who are close to the soil, for their own entertainment and enjoyment,

bullet

to work with youth to interest them in gardening,

bullet

to promote education and appreciation of horticulture for people of all ages, and

bullet

to stimulate community beautification through various forms of recognition.

We are set up as a not-for-profit organization.

Membership is extended to serious gardeners who have a concern for the above objectives of the organization. Membership categories and dues are

$25 per individual,

bullet

$35 per family,

bullet

lifetime: $200 + $5 annual local dues.

In addition to the local newsletter, the Tiller, members receive the TGOA/MGCA National Newsletter, a bi-monthly publication. To view recent issues of the Tiller, click here, then download the issue of your choice.

At the national level, a photography contest is held each year with photographs selected to use for a calendar, Youth Gardening and Gardening from the Heart programs are implemented, an annual convention is held, five annual $1,000 scholarships are presented, and much more. Applications for the scholarship to be applied to the local horticulture program at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College may be downloaded by clicking here. Horticulture scholarships are also available through the Northeastern Wisconsin Master Gardeners Association.

At the local level, members completed a landscaping project at a Habitat for Humanity home in Green Bay in June 2007. The gardens at the Brown County Agriculture and Extension Service Center received financial support and contributions of labor and plant materials the past several years. The Green Bay Botanical Garden also receives monetary donations and volunteer work on behalf of the members. The Silver Trowel awards are given to recognize contributions to community beautification, awards are given to youth in the Big Sunflower and Big Pumpkin contests, and much more.
