Herbie Hancock Launches National Jazz Appreciation Month
Governor Jim Doyle Once Again Signs a Proclamation Making April, 2005 Jazz Appreciation Month In Wisconsin.
Wisconsin Now Leads the Way for IAJE!
In February of this year, Governor Doyle once again signed a proclamation designating April 2005 as Jazz Appreciation Month in Wisconsin. In conjunction with the Smithsonian Jazz Appreciation Month (J.A.M.) project, Wisconsin is again the first state to officially join this national initiative. This has happened through the efforts of the National IAJE, your Wisconsin IAJE Executive Board, and of course the fabulous support of our ultra-hip Governor!

So what does this mean for Wisconsin? First of all, it means that our Governor is cool enough to do such a thing! (I mentioned that already, but I will shout it from the rooftops whenever an elected official supports jazz!) Secondly, it means that we join an elite group of states that are the first to team-up with the Smithsonian in this very worthy initiative. And thirdly, it gives us yet another tool in promoting jazz and jazz education.

So, let's all get behind this! How can you do this right away? Designate any of your already-scheduled April jazz events as "Jazz Appreciation Month" celebrations. If you do, please send us here at IAJE-WISCONSIN your programs via e-mail so that I can compile them and make a happy report of our J.A.M. activities to the Smithsonian and National IAJE.
