Governor Jim Doyle Signs a Proclamation Making April, 2004 Jazz Appreciation Month In Wisconsin
In January at the National IAJE Conference, a new initiative was put forth to have each state take part in the Smithsonian Institution's Jazz Appreciation Month program. Your Wisconsin Unit of IAJE has done just that by soliciting Governor Jim Doyle to sign an official proclamation. The official document was signed earlier this year and can be viewed at this link: Gov. Doyle Jazz Proclamation.
So what does this mean for Wisconsin? first of all, it means that our Governor is hip enough to do such a thing! (always nice!) Secondly, it means that we join an elite group of states that are the first to team-up with the Smithsonian in this very worthy initiative. And thirdly, it gives us yet another tool in promoting jazz and jazz education.
So how does all of this work, and what can you do with this official designation at your school this month? Click this link to go to the Smithsonian page that describes the program and how best to utilize it. Smithsonian JAM FAQ Site
In the meantime, I would like to thank Steve Sveum and the whole IAJE-WISCONSIN Exec Board for putting this initiative together. And also, a big thank you to Governor Jim Doyle for the proclamation itself. We have much to be proud of in Wisconsin, and this is just another great example! ______________________ Steve Wiest President, IAJE-Wisconsin __________________________ Next Full IAJE-WISCONSIN On-Line Newsletter in May, 2004
